CBS' broadcast crew of Jim Nantz, Tony Romo and Gene Steratore were all in agreement that Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase didn't come down with the touchdown catch that officials overturned during the second quarter of Sunday's divisional-round showdown with the Bills in Buffalo.
The reaction on social media indicated a difference of opinion from many.
Chase's catch would've given the Bengals a two-touchdown lead. They settled, instead, for an Evan McPherson field goal.
Here are some of the tweets from those who thought Chase's TD catch looked like a catch, with complete control of the ball and his feet in bounds in the end zone:
Upon further review! I have no clue how you overturn that Chase TD 🤦🏾♂️

I don’t care what the damn rule says. We all know that’s a touchdown. Zapruder film replays of a ball rotating halfway after it was clearly caught is not what the sport should be about https://t.co/6MoD7Rgc4D

The ball is always in Chase's control while his feet are in bounds. It moving after the fact is moot.
That's a horrible ruling in any interpretation of the rule. Absolute highway robbery.
I don't care what Gene Steratore said, he's wrong. That's absolute trash.— Jake Liscow (@JakeLiscow) January 22, 2023
No NFL rule is dumber than the end zone catch rules where if Chase catches this and takes two steps but then has it knocked out it’s a TD, but because he goes to the ground it’s INC.
Either two feet and control is a TD or not— Peter Bukowski (@Peter_Bukowski) January 22, 2023
What thorough nonsense.
That was absolutely 50/50 and called a catch on the field.
That’s everything that’s wrong with replay.
It was never intended for that level of objective minutiae. #Bengals— Mike Greenberg (@Espngreeny) January 22, 2023
Horrible call give that man his td smh

That is still the dumbest rule in football. That should be a touchdown at any level. #RuleTheJungle #WhoDey
