James Charles revealed on Instagram this weekend that he's launching a new eyeshadow palette with Morphe, the Morphe X James Charles Mini Collection. But not everyone is happy about it.

The new release is designed to have the exact same 39 pigmented shades as the original Morphe X James Charles palette, but after "[listening] to the feedback from you sisters", it's been made half the size. The new version also includes a mirror "for glamming on the go", Charles revealed on social media.

So far, so good, right? Except, well, no. Because it's gone down like a lead balloon, as far as for some of his followers are concerned.

Some people took to Twitter to shade the new product for the lack of creativity involved. It didn't go unnoticed that Charles is basically releasing exactly the same product, despite having had almost a whole year to work on something new after the original Morphe palette came out.

"So James Charles collaborated with Morphe again and the new palette is basically his old one in slightly changed shades... ~ creativity ~" wrote one person. Others responded with similar thoughts:

In his post announcing the upcoming launch, James Charles seems to address some of the issues his fans have with the mini palette.

"This collection isn’t some 'crazy new launch that you guys HAVE to go buy'," he writes. "It’s for my fans and fellow artists who have supported me." Soo there you go.

The negative comments weren't the only response to the YouTuber's new release, however. Plenty of Charles' followers were keen for it, being half the size and therefore lower in price.

James Charles' newest release comes not long after he accused beauty brand Wet n Wild of copying his Morphe collaboration with their latest eyeshadow palette.

"That's crazy ... your NEW palette looks extremely similar," the 20-year-old wrote on Twitter.

The Wet n Wild palette has one more colour than the James Charles palette, having 40 versus Morphe's 39 colours. It's also significantly cheaper than James Charles' palette, which retails at $39 - Wet n Wild's version costs just $19.99.

Some conspiracy theorists on Twitter think the release of the mini Morphe palette may have been thought up last minute, in response to Wet n Wild's newest beauty offering.

Whatever people are saying about the YouTuber's latest launch, James Charles himself seems happy with it. So... at least there's that?
