James Charles' new Morphe palette hasn't gone down well
James Charles revealed on Instagram this weekend that he's launching a new eyeshadow palette with Morphe, the Morphe X James Charles Mini Collection. But not everyone is happy about it.
The new release is designed to have the exact same 39 pigmented shades as the original Morphe X James Charles palette, but after "[listening] to the feedback from you sisters", it's been made half the size. The new version also includes a mirror "for glamming on the go", Charles revealed on social media.
So far, so good, right? Except, well, no. Because it's gone down like a lead balloon, as far as for some of his followers are concerned.
Some people took to Twitter to shade the new product for the lack of creativity involved. It didn't go unnoticed that Charles is basically releasing exactly the same product, despite having had almost a whole year to work on something new after the original Morphe palette came out.
"So James Charles collaborated with Morphe again and the new palette is basically his old one in slightly changed shades... ~ creativity ~" wrote one person. Others responded with similar thoughts:
Same 💩 with a mirror how creative, did a take one year to come out with this! #boybye

James Charles: “I’ve been working on this for so long”
* literally reveals they’re releasing the exact same palette he did a year ago, just smaller* 😂🤦🏻♀️ pic.twitter.com/5QAPOvaHzf— G (@gabbymk95) October 11, 2019
Fr tho I don't really have anything again James Charles but can we all admit this shit is just a lazy cash grab likely bc they had some pigments left and decided to half them and smush them into a mini palette to try and make the James x morphe collection relevant again?

So James Charles has released another morphe palette and it is the exact same as the original palette, just smaller. I get it’s better for travelling but it’s literally the same palette. And he’s released another brush set with the palette just with less brushes than the original

I’m good this is the same palette I’ll deal with the original it fits in my giant purse as is 😂😂😂

In his post announcing the upcoming launch, James Charles seems to address some of the issues his fans have with the mini palette.
"This collection isn’t some 'crazy new launch that you guys HAVE to go buy'," he writes. "It’s for my fans and fellow artists who have supported me." Soo there you go.

The negative comments weren't the only response to the YouTuber's new release, however. Plenty of Charles' followers were keen for it, being half the size and therefore lower in price.
YASSSSS FOR OUR SISTERS ON A BUDGET. I can now buy the pallet bc it was WAY to expensive for me before.

I hardly ever wear a full face of makeup, maybe twice a month, so a mini pallet of the same shades honestly makes SO MUCH sense for me, and I will buy. For people wondering WHY THEY WOULD DO THIS, I’ve had my eye on this FOREVER but didn’t wanna spend the cash on the big one 🤷🏻♀️

James Charles' newest release comes not long after he accused beauty brand Wet n Wild of copying his Morphe collaboration with their latest eyeshadow palette.
"That's crazy ... your NEW palette looks extremely similar," the 20-year-old wrote on Twitter.
That’s crazy... your “NEW” palette looks extremely similar. 🤔 https://t.co/ualEHvoLOP
— James Charles (@jamescharles) September 7, 2019
The Wet n Wild palette has one more colour than the James Charles palette, having 40 versus Morphe's 39 colours. It's also significantly cheaper than James Charles' palette, which retails at $39 - Wet n Wild's version costs just $19.99.
Some conspiracy theorists on Twitter think the release of the mini Morphe palette may have been thought up last minute, in response to Wet n Wild's newest beauty offering.
So the smaller James Charles Palette will be inexpensive and better quality than the WetnWild version to compete right?

Whatever people are saying about the YouTuber's latest launch, James Charles himself seems happy with it. So... at least there's that?
