Police are investigating after a body was discovered in a retention pond in a New Town neighborhood.
On Wednesday morning, a pedestrian walking along the roadway in the 5000 block of Olive Drive spotted the body of a Black male floating in the pond, police said in a release.
James City County police and fire responded to the scene, recovering the body, which was then taken to the Medical Examiners’ Office in Norfolk.
The victim has not yet been identified, and the suspicious death investigation is ongoing. Police spokesman Tayleb Brooks said they are asking neighbors in the area for any home surveillance or other video from the last two to three weeks showing anything suspicious. This time frame is based on investigators’ “initial guess” at how long the body had been in the pond, Brooks said.
