GET OUT!: James Gregory, Heaven's Cradle 5k, outdoor concerts, movies highlight weekend activities

Williams Auditorium in Henderson is brining another nationally-known entertainer to rural West Tennessee this weekend as comedian James Gregory will perform in Chester County.

Gregory is known as “The Funniest Man in America.”

Here’s a rundown of other things to do in and around Jackson this weekend:

Thursday

Heaven’s Cradle Twilight Run: Join Heaven’s Cradle for their annual Twilight Run 5K/1mile run or walk through historic downtown and midtown Jackson followed by dinner and live music at the Downtown Rendezvous. The race starts at 91 New Market Street at The West Tennessee Farmer’s Market and starts at 6:30 p.m. Registration is $30 and can be done online at https://runsignup.com/Race/TN/Jackson/HeavensCradleTwilightRunDowntownRendezvous.

Friday

Rhythm on the Rails: Join your friends and family out by the South Lake at Discovery Park of America on Friday nights through June 24 for a family-friendly summer concert series. Bring your blanket, lawn chairs or grab a seat near or around the Train Depot and listen to some of your favorite local entertainers and bands perform. You can fish on the bank of the lake, watch the sun set against the horizon, enjoy a cocktail or just sit back and chat with friends. Bring your appetite because food will be available to purchase. It will be a great way to kick off your summer weekends. Admission is free. Cash bar and food trucks are available. This week’s entertainment is Steve Short and Keith Brown & The Shotgunbillys.

Safari Park Drive-In Theater: The drive-in at the Safari Park in Alamo (618 Conley Road) this weekend with a showing the long-awaited sequel “Top Gun: Maverick.” Gates open at 7 p.m. with the movie starting at dark. Adult tickets are $12 and children 2-12 years old get in for $10. Full concessions are available.

Hub City Flea Market: The flea market is held at the Jackson Fairgrounds. For the 2022 season, the flea market will be held on the first weekend of each month. Phone number and website coming soon. Saturday

Jackson Sports Cards & Collectibles Show: VFW Post 1848 (3803 Highway 45 in Jackson) will host the show that has free admission from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Jackson Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant: The Society for African American Cultural Awareness is hosting the second annual Miss Jackson Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant on June 4 at North Side High School (3066 North Highland Avenue in Jackson). Voices in the Vineyard: Guests are welcome to bring a picnic basket and chairs to Century Farm Winery (1548 Lower Brownsville Road in Jackson), or reserve a table for friends and family, and enjoy local food truck fare. There will also be a tasting room and gift shop for snacks such as crackers and cheese. ONLY Alcohol purchased from Century Farm Winery permitted. There will be a selection of beers, sodas, and wine slushes in addition to bottles of our award-winning wine. Please, no smoking, and no pets. Food trucks will be ready to serve you at 6:30 p.m. with music kicking off at 7 p.m. Lawn chairs welcome, limited table reservations available- call 731-424-7437. This week’s entertainment is The Jason Foree Band, and the food truck is TeTe’s Food Wagon.
