James Gunn has confirmed Peacemaker season two is still in the works.
The director known for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy is now firmly entrenched in his reboot of the DC Universe, alongside Peter Safran, and that has left fans to wonder where another season of John Cena's superhero comedy series stood.
Luckily, Gunn said on a new episode of the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast that he'll be getting back to Peacemaker very soon.
"Peacemaker's coming back right after Superman. That's my next thing," he promised.
The Superman project Gunn referred to is the character's reboot for the new DCU in the film titled Superman: Legacy, which will introduce the Man of Steel without being an origin story.
Gunn also reiterated in his podcast appearance that he has no plans to make The Suicide Squad 2, but many of those characters will factor into the spin-off TV series Waller.
As set up by the first season of Peacemaker, this next spin-off will bring back Viola Davis's Amanda Waller and Team Peacemaker to face off with the worst of the worst in the DCU.
As Warner Bros embarks on this new era for DC, Gunn has announced that the upcoming Blue Beetle movie will introduce the first official character of his new DCU: Xolo Maridueña as the Jaime Reyes version of the Beetle.
"The first DCU character, for sure, is Blue Beetle, and the first full DCU movie is Superman," Gunn clarified in his latest podcast interview.
Other projects lined up for this first chapter of Gunn and Safran's DCU — subtitled 'Gods and Monsters' — include the antihero team-up movie The Authority, the new Batman movie The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and a long-awaited big-screen adventure for Swamp Thing.
The Suicide Squad is out now on DVD and Blu-ray. Peacemaker season 1 is streaming on Max in the US and airs on Sky and NOW in the UK.
