James Norton drama Death Comes to Pemberley has shot up the Netflix charts after debuting on the platform.

The BBC show aired in December 2013, and is described as a spiritual sequel to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

The three-part series now sits at number five in Netflix's list of Top 10 programmes in the UK, ahead of shows such as Griselda and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Based on the novel by PD James, the story follows Elizabeth Bennett (Anna Maxwell Martin) and Mr Darcy (Matthew Rhys) six years into their married life. As they prepare for their annual ball, however, a murder-mystery unfolds on the grounds of Pemberley.

The series also stars Norton in one of his earlier TV roles, before his breakout in Happy Valley, here playing the part of Mr Henry Alveston.

Also part of the ensemble are Doctor Who's Jenna Coleman and The Crown's Matthew Goode.

Norton recently signed on for another BBC period drama, and is set to play Harold, Earl of Wessex in King and Conqueror.

He will appear opposite Game of Thrones' Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays William, Duke of Normandy, with the series following the events preceding 1066's Battle of Hastings.

"King and Conqueror will bring Harold and William to life, depicting their lives, loves and families, and the gripping, high-stakes power game that led to their fateful meeting in 1066," said the head of BBC programme acquisition Sue Deeks.

"With incredible talent both in front of and behind the camera, I cannot wait for this exciting project to be realised."
