James Wan to produce adaptation of 'The Good Asian' graphic novel about detective in 1936 Chinatown

Thai American writer Pornsak Pichetshote’s comic book series “The Good Asian” will be developed into a TV series.

“Aquaman” director and "M3gan" producer James Wan, along with Michael Clear and Rob Hackett, will produce the project for Atomic Monster, which Wan founded in 2014, reported Deadline.

“The Good Asian,” which won an Eisner Award for Best Limited Series last year, centers around Edison Hark, a Chinese American detective who finds himself embroiled in a murder investigation in 1936 Chinatown.

The upcoming series will be a Chinatown noir, focusing on "the first generation of Americans to come of age under an immigration ban, the Chinese, as they rise against a system of violence, oppression and corruption in their community to build a better future."

Pichetshote was an editor at DC’s Vertigo imprint before he started writing for television. During his time at Vertigo, he worked on comics such as “Sandman" and "Swamp Thing.” He would go on to work for DC Entertainment's media team as an executive, becoming a driving force behind projects such as "Gotham," "Constantine," "Arrow," "The Flash" and "iZombie."
