Jamestown receives 7 inches of snow, NWS says

Nov. 11—JAMESTOWN — Jamestown received 7 inches of snow with a snow depth of 8 inches Thursday and Friday, Nov. 10-11, according to measurements taken at 6 a.m. at the North Dakota State Hospital, said Nathan Heinert, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Bismarck.

Heinert said 4 inches was reported in Montpelier and Valley City got 5 1/2 inches.

"Basically you go further south, there's not much (snowfall) down in LaMoure, Lisbon, Dickey County," he said.

A no-travel advisory was removed Friday morning for Stutsman County and most surrounding counties.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation and the North Dakota Highway Patrol opened Interstate 94 in both directions from Dickinson to Jamestown Friday morning, Nov. 11. U.S. Highway 52/281 from Jamestown to Harvey also was reopened Friday morning.

City crews will begin clearing snow at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in residential areas in Jamestown. City crews will begin clearing snow in the downtown district at 11 p.m. Friday, and all vehicles should be removed from the downtown streets, avenues and alleyways.

Residential and business alleys will be plowed.

The city of Jamestown's ordinance requires a property owner to keep the sidewalk adjoining the property clear of snow and ice. Snow or ice should not be deposited on the city street after the plow has cleared the street and any violations are Class B misdemeanors that will result in a fine.

Heinert said the last time the Jamestown area had a blizzard this early in the fall was from Oct. 11-12, 2019, when a total of 17 inches of snow was reported.

He said there are some clipper systems in the near future that could bring some light snow. He also said to expect low temperatures to be around zero on Saturday, Nov. 12, and to remain in the single digits through the rest of the week.
