The Tourist actor Jamie Dornan has opened up about his severe allergy to horses.

Appearing on The Graham Norton Show next to Imelda Staunton (The Crown), Jack Lowden (Slow Horses) and Ncuti Gatwa (Doctor Who), the Northern Irishman told the talkshow host of the time this condition directly impacted filming of the Channel 4 series New Worlds.

"I really liked the horse that I had," he said. "It was the final day and I was like, 'You know what, I love this horse!' and I kissed it on the lips.

"I had half a day left, the horse was wrapped, so I gave it a kiss and my lips absolutely blew up and we couldn't shoot the rest of the day," Dornan added, shrugging.

Earlier on, he'd mentioned to Norton: "I'm highly allergic to horses. It is a problem yeah, but I like them. As a species, I kinda like them. I just can't get close."

Prior to New Worlds, the star played Axel von Fersen in the historical biopic Marie-Antoinette, who was a real-life General of Horse in the Swedish army.

While shooting, he somehow forgot that he was allergic to these animals.

"I pretty much spent the whole movie on a horse, and I forgot... I hadn't been around horses for a long time so I was trotting around this place," he recalled.

"My whole face had become a giant hive. I had to get Epi-Penned. They then almost couldn't insure me to do the movie. I'm very, very medicated if you see me on a horse."

The Graham Norton Show airs Fridays on BBC One.
