Jamie Foxx says he’s been “chomping at the bit for a long time” to play Mike Tyson. Now a limited series, co-executive produced by Martin Scorsese and Antoine Fuqua, is underway. The Oscar winner says Tyson’s life is “the quintessential American story.” (April 14)
JAMIE FOXX: Well, man, listen. We're just happy, you know. I've known Mike for a long time. We've been trying to get this in the right way. But now to have Martin Scorsese, to have Antoine Fuqua who are juggernauts in the business, and they really want to take this in a great way. This man's life has been epic. Epic failures, epic success, the quintessential American story.
And so now we want to be able to show that in the most visceral way, and open up doors that people didn't know in this man's life. For me being able to watch him personally, watch a person who wakes up to go do good, and then to watch the winds blow. I'm telling you.
And at one point if you see the process like being able to gain the weight, put the prosthetics on, and then look so eerily like him, there will be moments I'm sure where the camera will just be locked off, and we'll just let that burn in your head for a long time. Because like I said, I've been waiting, chomping it a bit for a long time. So it's not going to be easy. But I know when we come out of this there will be something that we can all watch and feel a certain way about.
