Jan. 15 Amarillo COVID-19 report card: 626 new cases push active total near 7,000

The Amarillo Public Health Department reported an increase of 626 new COVID-19 cases and one additional death in Friday's COVID-19 report card.

That brings the total number of cases in Potter and Randall counties to 61,041 and the total number of deaths to 1,035 since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

Of the total, 6,970 cases were reported as active in Friday's report card, a net increase of 486 active cases.

There have been 53,036 reported COVID-19 recoveries, an increase of 139 recoveries from Thursday.

Trauma Service Area A, which includes Potter and Randall counties as well as the majority of the Texas Panhandle, is recording a 21.74% COVID-19 hospitalization rate as of Thursday.

Potter County saw an increase of 280 COVID-19 cases, bringing the county's total to 29,759 since the start of the pandemic. Of the total, 3,273 are active, an increase of 203 net active cases since Thursday. There have been 25,862 recoveries and 624 deaths related to the virus, according to Friday's report card.

Randall County saw an increase of 346 COVID-19 cases, bringing the county's total to 31,282 since the start of the pandemic. Of the total, 3,697 are active, an increase of 283 net active cases from Thursday. There have been 27,174 recoveries and 411 deaths related to the virus, according to Friday's report card.

As reported in Friday's COVID-19 update, 508,465 COVID-19 tests have been conducted since the start of the pandemic, with 18 tests pending.

City receives antibody treatment

The Amarillo Public Health Department has received a shipment of the monoclonal antibody infusion medication Sotrovimab, the city announced Friday.

The department has begun scheduling patients for treatment beginning with those who are already on the referral list and moving on to new patients as monoclonal antibody supplies last.

As previously reported, the department gave out all doses of the COVID-19 monoclonal antibodies allocated after treating more than 5,000 patients at the Amarillo Regional Infusion Center, 808 S. Johnson. Treatments at the clinic resumed with the next shipment of the COVID-19 monoclonal antibodies from the Texas Department of State Health Services. Hospitalization report

The Amarillo Public Health COVID-19 Hospitalization report, which is released each Friday, noted 159 COVID-19 patients hospitalized, 83.6% of whom are not vaccinated, with 62 patients in the ICU and 44 on ventilators. Of the 62 individuals in the ICU, 87.1% of them are unvaccinated. Of the 44 individuals on ventilators, 95.5% are unvaccinated. The report also noted that there have been 362 deaths since Aug. 1, of which 86.2 have been those who were unvaccinated.

The report is posted every week with updated data from BSA Health System, Northwest Texas Healthcare System, and Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center.
