Jane Bain DAR chapter joins Vietnam veterans ceremony

Jane Bain Chapter of National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution marked National Vietnam War Veterans Day on March 29 with a service at the Vietnam War memorial in Alliance. Jane Bain chapter member Deborah S. Hughes, a former U.S. Navy petty officer first class, presented a wreath to Sgt. 1st Class Sherman Brick, a U.S. Army retiree. Hughes also presented Brick with a NSDAR Challenge Coin in honor of the service of members of Brick’s group. Regent Dee Grimm gave opening remarks honoring Vietnam War veterans for their service, and Chaplain Michal Barrett offered a prayer.

Jane Bain Chapter members also heard from Debra Fendler, a genealogist with Stark County Library, who spoke to the group about services available at the libraries. Fendler stated that the library offers records of land, cemeteries, probate court, vital statistics and many others types dating back to 1809 and the origin of Stark County. The library also has access to the Ancestry Library Edition, My Heritage Library Edition as well as other databases. Fendler and other staff are available to assist you in tracing your family roots.

Over the winter Jane Bain Chapter members collected personal care items to place in fabric gift bags made by member Deb Hughes as a Valentine gift for 45 residents of of Centreville Village Assisted Living. Members also collected snack items to be donated to the USO for National Guard troops who were assisting medical facilities conducting COVID testing and vaccination clinics. Club members also voted to donate monthly to the USO as their needs list changes.
