Actress and activist Jane Fonda described to Good Morning America host George Stephanopolous why she launched a climate PAC to support climate-forward politicians.

FONDA: “The fossil fuel industry has a stranglehold over our government. And in spite of that, in spite of all the actions that people have taken, we can't get good legislation passed because the fossil fuel industry has a stranglehold over our government. And that's what the political action committee’s about - we want to oust the people that are beholden to fossil fuel and we want to elect climate champions. So, you know, next week, I'm going to Michigan for Andy Levin. I’m supporting Donna Edwards. I'm supporting people who are really brave, and who will work for people not for big corporations.

STEPHANOPOLOUS: There’s no escaping the consequences now. Hundred degrees all over the globe.

FONDA: I was just in Italy for three months, 104 degrees. It's hard to survive. It's hard to work in that kind of a thing. And I did, you know, your, your weather report was talking about the fires in Iowa and it's, it's getting worse and worse, and it's going to continue to get worse. We have eight years left to do what the scientists are telling us.
