Jane Spears' background doesn't include much agriculture, but she's lending her great talents to benefit young people involved in FFA.

Her art retrospective and benefit sale is featured in the NorthLight Gallery at the Kemp Center for Arts through Jan. 7.

"It's called a retrospective art show because it kind of showcases everything I've done," Spears said. "I have paintings that hadn't sold before or so I re-did, plus some new ones. All of the collage pieces are new and I have porcelain sculptures that have never been for sale before."

She said the show includes assemblage pieces.

"That's a French word for putting all these crazy things together to make something," Spears said.

Spears began her art education as a child in her hometown of Lubbock and then taught painting to children and adults for about 16 years after moving to Wichita Falls. She studied French and Italian at the University of Texas and served on the Board of Regents at Midwestern State University.

All proceeds will be donated to help create an enhanced Agri-Science Center Program at the Bridwell Ag Farm at 5000 Kemp Blvd., a project that has become dear to Spears.

"The more I heard about I knew that was what I wanted to do it and now I'm very passionate about it," she said. "There are about three of us who are working real hard to make this happen."
