January has been damp and gray. These Newport County weekend events could lift your spirit

January has been a damp, gray month, making it pretty easy to curl up under a blanket, find something to stream and order some takeout.

If you find yourself in that pattern, this weekend could be the motivation to breakout.

Relax with a yoga movie night, or even build a local getaway by getting a great meal to celebrate the Lunar New Year and take advantage of some great hotel deals.

If you're looking to get out of Newport County, there's also an opportunity to enjoy some of Rhode Island's best craft breweries all in one place.

RI Hotel Month

Now's the time to get away without going too far. This weekend marks the last weekend of the now annual RI Hotel Month with hotels across the state, including six here in Newport County, offering deals of 30% or more from normal rates.

The weekend can serve as a win-win for guests and the hotels, offering a quick couples getaway, or find a hotel with a pool to take the kids and break the doldrums of January.

Celebrate the Lunar New Year

Yagi Noodles has a Chinese New Year menu that runs through Saturday, Jan. 28, that includes both appetizers, noodle dishes and a sweet coconut entremet dessert. The appetizers include a Good Fortune Citrus Salad and Lettuces in Oyster Sauce. The salad is for wealth, prosperity and good luck (in Chinese, lettuce is a homonym for making money). You will also find Steamed Fluke, dumplings, Garlic-Stuffed Shrimp, and Fried Sticky Rice with Chinese sausage.

Castle Hill Inn is offering a three-course lunch created by executive chef Andy Taur, who has Chinese roots. The Lunar New Year meal is offered at $35 per person from Jan. 27 through Feb. 5 at the Newport resort.
