Who: Emmy-nominated actress January Jones, 43, and Golden Globe-winning actor Jason Sudeikis, 45.

How They Met: The actors reportedly met in November 2009, when Jones made her Saturday Night Live hosting debut. Sudeikis, a cast member at the time, was paired opposite Jones in several sketches … but more on that later.

The coupling first caught the public's eye in July 2010, when they (along with Jones's Mad Men co-star Jon Hamm) attended the ESPY Awards in L.A. Jones and Sudeikis also reportedly hit up the after-party, where they made out "all night."

Though neither party immediately commented on the status of their relationship, the couple was a paparazzi magnet from the beginning.

"[Paparazzi] don't follow me around," Sudeikis told Lopez Tonight host George Lopez that August, "[But] they sometimes follow around the girl that I'm dating."

Why We Loved Them:

Sudeikis, a comedian, was known to, uh, joke, and Jones matched him beat for beat.

When Lopez asked the actor if he and Jones were dating, Sudeikis said he didn't "want to get into it." This being 2010, Lopez followed up by asking if he'd seen the star "naked and everything."

"I'm kidding," Sudeikis responded. "I do want to get into it! I do, and I have!"

A week later, at the Emmys (which Jones and Sudeikis attended together), the Mad Men nominee told People, "He's never seen me naked, nor will he after those comments." Burnnnn.

Sudeikis put the jokes aside for an interview with Vanity Fair. "We're dating, she's great," he said. "I'm very happy with everything."

When They Peaked:

Though Jones's SNL episode is widely considered one of the season's worst, it did present the perfect showcase for her and Sudeikis's chemistry.

In one particularly memorable sketch, Jones plays Grace Kelly opposite Sudeikis's Jimmy Stewart on the set of Rear Window. The set-up is simple: they're filming a pivotal scene, but Kelly can't stop farting. Is there a better way to begin a relationship than executing an extended fart joke for millions of viewers? My sources say no.

The Breakup:

In January 2011, People reported Jones and Sudeikis's split, claiming that "distance" ultimately ended the relationship.

"They've been on and off for a few months and then the long distance kind of ended it," a source told the outlet. "But they could get back together. It was just hard to stay together with the distance."

At this point, Jones was shooting Mad Men in L.A., while Sudeikis was needed in N.Y.C. for SNL.

That spring, Jones told Allure more of the same.

"The long distance kind of petered us out," she said of her and Sudeikis. "When you date someone else who's in the industry, someone has to make the sacrifices. And if no one's willing to, then you just have to be friends."

In late April, Jones announced her pregnancy and the media decided it was their right to endlessly speculate about the identity of her unborn child's father. Sudeikis was of course a contender, and was actually asked for comment by The Washington Post.

"I'd rather — yes but no," he replied, clearly taken aback by the question. When asked whether he was surprised by the news, Sudeikis shut the conversation down: "No, I — no, I didn't have anything [else to say]."

Sudeikis reflected on the relationship in a 2021 GQ interview, describing his experience with the media at that time as "trial by fire."

Where They Are Now:

Jones welcomed her son, Xander, in 2011. She's since dated Last Man on Earth co-star Will Forte and Bachelor alum Nick Viall.

The actress is currently filming Nick Cassavetes crime drama God Is a Bullet.

Soon after splitting from Jones, Sudeikis began dating Olivia Wilde. The We're the Millers star proposed in 2013 and the couple welcomed son Otis the following year. Wilde gave birth to daughter Daisy in 2016. After a 7-year engagement, the parents of two split in November 2020. Sudeikis was last romantically linked to his Ted Lasso co-star Keely Hazell.

Season 2 of Sudeikis's critically acclaimed Ted Lasso launches on AppleTV+ July 23.
