Japanese live drama 'Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games' features Street Fighter V
A live action series about girls playing fighting games should of course feature one of the most iconic fighting games of all time.
Japanese manga Tai Ari Deshita ~Ojо̄-sama wa Kakutо̄ Gēmu Nante Shinai~ (対ありでした。 ～お嬢さまは格闘ゲームなんてしない), also known as “Thanks for the Match: Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games” is getting a live-action adaptation, and it is going to feature CAPCOM’s Street Fighter V, one of the most popular fighting games of all time.
The story is about Aya, who transfers into “Kuromi Girls’ Academy”, a prestigious, exclusive school for girls through a scholarship, and aims to be an elegant and refined proper lady.
In the trailer, Aya (played by Kayashima Mizuki) meets the school idol, Mio Yorue (nicknamed Shirayuri), an intelligent and talented young lady with light-coloured hair who carries herself elegantly.
Aya says in Japanese, "I can't explain how my heart raised at that moment. This girl made my life crazy."
In the manga, Aya runs into Shirayuri playing her favourite fighting game series in the school hallway and learns that Shirayuri is actually a trash-talking, passionate gamer.
Instead of Iron Senpai 4, a fictional fighting game that was shown in the manga, the trailer showed the protagonists playing Street Fighter V, with footage coming from Street Fighter V: Championship Edition.
The trailer then shows Aya and Shirayuri (played by Tanabe Ririka), along with other girls, joining a Street Fighter V tournament, encountering different types of gamers on and off stage.
Iconic Street Fighter character Ryu was featured in the trailer with his famous 'Hadouken' move, fighting against Cammy, another popular character from the series.
Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games is a manga series written and illustrated by Eri Ejima that first appeared in the 2020 issues of Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Flapper.
It has since been arranged into five volumes and officially translated into English by Seven Seas Entertainment, with the fifth volume set to be released in English this May.
The manga was set to have an anime adaptation as well. However, there has been no news about its development so far.
The live action series is set to be released on 19 May in Japan, and is set to run for eight episodes. No international release date announced at this time.
