Japanese man rescued after nearly a day stranded
A dramatic rescue video filmed by Japan Coast Guard shows the man clinging onto the boat as rescuers try to save him.
The man was on a 5-ton boat "Daigotakamaru" alone to work on a port construction project off Yakushima when the boat overturned Saturday afternoon. His co-workers contacted the Japan Coast Guard about the accident, but he was found only the next day around 30 kilometres offshore of Onoaida Port in Yakushima.
The man sustained a minor injury on his left ankle but his life was not in danger.
The Japan Coast Guard is looking into the cause of the accident.
