Japanese spacecraft crashes while attempting to land on the moon

A Japanese company says it has lost communication with the first commercially developed spacecraft designed to land on the moon.

The Hakuto-R spacecraft launched on a Falcon 9 rocket from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in December.

However, after a 3-month journey, ispace now says it failed its scheduled landing Tuesday.

This leaves the U.S., the former Soviet Union, and China as the only countries that have successfully completed a lunar landing.
