A Japanese start-up is selling a 14-feet-tall Gundam-like robot suit for $3 million

Japanese robotics company Tsubame Industries has created a 14.8-feet-tall robot called Archax, which resembles the robot from classic anime series “Mobile Suit Gundam."
About Archax: According to the Tokyo-based start-up, the $3-million robot that weighs 3.5 tons was named after the avian dinosaur archaeopteryx. The four-wheeled steel robot will be unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show later this month.
"This is Japan": Ryo Yoshida, the 25-year-old CEO of Tsubame Industries, aims to build and sell five units. He envisions potential uses in disaster relief and in space exploration.
“Japan is very good at animation, games, robots and automobiles so I thought it would be great if I could create a product that compressed all these elements into one,” Yoshida said, according to Reuters. “I wanted to create something that says, ‘This is Japan.’ I hope to learn from previous generations and carry on the tradition.”

Archax’s features: The robot features cockpit monitors that display images from exterior cameras, allowing the pilot to control its arms and hands using joysticks and floor pedals inside. It can switch between an upright “robot mode” and a “vehicle mode” that can travel up to 10 km/h.
