Japanese survey reveals top 10 Studio Ghibli houses fans want to live in

Around 1,000 people across Japan participated in a survey to indicate the Studio Ghibli houses they would most like to live in.

Survey details: The survey, which was conducted by Japan Trend Research and housing specialist Logos Home between June 3 and June 9, asked the participants about which Studio Ghibli house they would choose to reside in and why.

Simplicity over everything: Shizuku’s house from “Whisper of the Heart” (19 votes) and Haru’s house in “The Cat Returns” (23 votes) came in at 10th and ninth place, respectively.

One of the participants who chose Shizuku’s house explained that they chose the abode because “it seems to be the most ordinary house, making it easy to live in,” according to SoraNews24.

Prioritizing location Some respondents explained that in addition to aesthetics, the house’s location also played a major role, which was notably the case for Sophie’s home from “Howl’s Moving Castle” at No. 8 (28 votes), Sosuke and Ponyo’s house from “Ponyo” at No. 7 (44 votes), Arrietty’s house from “The Secret World of Arrietty” at No. 6 (54 votes) and Pazu’s house from “Laputa: Castle in the Sky” (71 votes) at No. 5.

A unique experience: Other respondents chose different houses due to the experiences they could provide, such as the bathhouse in “Spirited Away” (81 votes), which placed fourth. Kiki’s humble attic abode above a local bakery in “Kiki’s Delivery Service” (108 votes) placed third, while Howl’s castle from “Howl’s Moving Castle” (206 votes) placed second.

The winner: Coming in at No. 1 with 296 votes was Satsuki and Mei’s house from the hit film “My Neighbor Totoro.” Some respondents explained that it would be nice to live quietly and be surrounded by nature.
