Jaren Jackson Jr. breaks his Memphis Grizzlies' single-season blocks record

For the second consecutive season, Jaren Jackson Jr. set a Memphis Grizzlies franchise record for blocks in a single season.

Jackson's first block Friday against the Los Angeles Clippers was his 178th of the season, surpassing his total of 177 from last year. Jackson also did it in 59th game this season while last year's total was set in 78 games.

The fifth-year forward leads the NBA with a career-high 3.1 blocks per game and is almost certain to make his second All-Defense team. The remaining question is if Jackson, whose nickname is the "Block Panther," will win his first Defensive Player of the Year award.

Jackson has stiff competition from Milwaukee Bucks center Brook Lopez among others but he remains a favorite to win despite missing the early part of the season due to a foot injury. Marc Gasol is the only Grizzlies player to win the award.
