FALL RIVER — Convicted former Fall River mayor Jasiel Correia II has been transferred from a federal prison in Berlin, New Hampshire, where he began serving a six-year sentence in April 2022 to the Federal Detention Center Philadelphia in Pennsylvania.

The Herald News originally reported on Monday that Correia was sent to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, according to the Bureau of Prisons online inmate locator. But, it was apparently a stop over Monday from the Berlin prison, and confirmed by WJAR in Providence that Correia will be an inmate at FDC Philadelphia

Why Correia was transferred is not known. A spokesperson at the New York prison facility on Monday said the reason for a prisoner transfer is not public information.

That Correia will not be staying in the Brooklyn prison is better news for the former mayor, given the reputation of the living conditions at that facility.

Correia, 31, was convicted in 2021 after a month-long trial and found guilty of 21 counts of defrauding investors in his SnoOwl app, cheating on his taxes and extorting marijuana vendors. The federal judge presiding over the trial tossed out a number of additional charges, and he was sentenced to six years in federal prison.

After a stop over at a New York federal prison, former mayor Jasiel Correia II is now serving at FDC Philadelphia.

What is an administrative security metropolitan detention center?

Unlike the minimum to medium-security prison at the FCI Berlin facility located in the White Mountains in New Hampshire, the Bureau of Prisons identifies the FDC Philadelphia as an administrative security metropolitan detention center.

The same type of facility as the one he was at temporarily in Brooklyn.

As an administrative security facility that houses approximately 1,042 male and female inmates, the facility houses pre-trial criminal defendants, inmates with serious or chronic medical issues, and federal prisoners deemed dangerous, violent or prone to escape.

Additionally, the FDC Philadelphia houses prisoners of all security levels.

An inquiry from Berlin prison

After sentencing and numerous delays, Correia reported to prison in Berlin, New Hampshire, in April 2022. Before going to prison, Correia married his fiancé, Jenny Fernandes.

The couple had a baby a few months after Correia reported to prison.

But just 11 days before Correia reported to federal prison, his wife followed in his footsteps and started her own app company with a Boston-based partner called “ItsaVibe,” and reminiscent of his app SnoOwl.

In August 2022, The Herald News wrote about “ItsaVibe” which is in the App Store.

On Oct. 26, The Herald News received an email from the Berlin prison written by Special Investigative Services Tech Hunter Braase requesting a copy of the article.

Braase did not respond to a request for information on whether there is or was a BOP investigation related to Correia.

According to the BOP website, Correia is set for release on Oct. 29, 2026.
