Jason Aldean, Imagine Dragons, more coming to Ohio outdoor music venues in August

The outdoor concert season comes to a close at many venues in August with a final burst of music.

No matter what era or style of music you prefer, you're likely to find it somewhere around the state this month. You'll find rock of all sorts, rap, blues, country, pop opera, R&B and more.

Somewhat newer acts — including Lauv, Leon Bridges and the Kid LAROI — will perform at Kemba Live.

Acts that got their start in the '90a are particularly prevalent this month, with Incubus, Korn, Evanescence, Alicia Keys, Interpol and more appearing around the state.

Festivals range from bluegrass to electronica.

This list isn't all-inclusive, and some artists will be appearing at more than one venue, so check the sites for more options

Where to find live music at Ohio outdoor venues in August

Blossom Music Center

On evenings when the Cleveland Orchestra isn't holding forth at its summer home, big names will appear at this venue outside the city.

• Aug. 2, Phish. Tickets start at $49.50. The vintage jam band is on the road again, to the delight of its many followers.

• Aug. 3, Rob Zombie and Mudvayne. Tickets start at $18.75. Shock-rocker Zombie is taking time out from directing a film version of “The Munsters” to tour with heavy metal band Mudvayne.

• Aug. 9, Incubus. Tickets start at $20. The California rock band has been going strong since the '90s.

• Aug. 23, Korn and Evanescence. Tickets start at $29.50. Nu-metal pioneers Korn team up with goth band Evanescence, headed by Amy Lee since the '90s, for what ought to be a high-decibel concert.

• Aug. 24, Pitbull. Tickets start at $29.50. The Miami-based rapper is known for his upbeat, high-energy shows.

• Aug. 30, Wiz Khalifa. Tickets start at $29.50. The rapper, a Pittsburgh native and strong cannabis advocate, has been touring steadily for the past decade.

Fraze Pavilion

The 4,300-seat amphitheater in southwest Ohio promises “summer's best live music under the stars.”

• Aug. 3, Joe Bonamassa. Tickets start at $69. The stellar blues guitarist will play his newest album, “Time Clocks,” in its entirety.

• Aug. 25, Rick Springfield, Men at Work and John Waite. The three acts will take listeners back to the '80s.

Kemba Live

The outdoor area behind the venue will be hopping with rain-or-shine shows this month.

• Aug. 6, Beartooth. Tickets: $35. The hardcore punk band has been active in Columbus for the past decade.

• Aug. 7, Dispatch and O.A.R. Tickets: $49.50. The indie-roots band Dispatch is back together after several disbandings and touring with rock band O.A.R..

• Aug. 8, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness and Dashboard Confessional. Tickets: $39.50. The rock pianist and singer-songwriter is touring with the old emo favorites.

• Aug. 19, The Kid LAROI. Tickets: $35. The 19-year-old Australian rapper, probably best-known for collaborating with Justin Bieber on “Stay,” is promising to release his first album, “Kids Are Growing Up.”

• Aug. 21, Leon Bridges. Tickets: $59.50. The young soul and R&B singer-songwriter adheres to the traditions of those musical forms.

• Aug. 23, Lauv. Tickets: $39.50. Anyone who has listened to pop radio will likely have heard the young singer's breakout hit, “I Like Me Better.”

• Aug. 30, Interpol and Spoon. Tickets: $42.50. Nineties rock band Interpol, which just released a new album, “The Other Side of Make Believe,” will be joined by co-headliners and contemporaries Spoon, a rock band hailing from Texas.

Riverbend Music Center

The 5,000-person venue brings major acts to Cincinnati.

• Aug. 2, Chris Brown and Lil Baby. Tickets start at $29.50. Grammy Award-winning and controversial R&B star Brown co-headlines with rapper Lil Baby.

• Aug. 13, Zac Brown Band. Tickets start at $30.50. The hard-traveling country band is known for crowd-pleasing concerts.

• Aug. 16, The Beach Boys and the Temptations. Tickets start at $52.75. The current incarnations of two bands that got their start in the '60s might satisfy those with a hankering for the past.

• Aug. 18, Alicia Keys. Tickets start at $49.50. R&B singer-songwriter Keys, who has won 15 Grammy Awards, is in the middle of a world tour promoting her most recent album, “Keys,” an expanded version of which will be released in August.

• Aug. 25, Jason Aldean. Tickets start at $39.75. The country superstar brings his Rock N' Roll Cowboy Tour to Ohio.

• Aug. 28, Imagine Dragons. Tickets start at $49.50. The influential and hugely popular pop rockers are celebrating a decade of success by following up last year's “Mercury – Part 1” with this year's “Mercury – Part 2.”

• Aug. 31, Il Divo. Tickets start at $24.25. The pop opera trio pays tribute to former member Carlos Marin, who died in 2021, with their “Greatest Hits” tour.

Rose Music Center

The 4,200-seat venue offers a full slate of varied programming.

• Aug. 3, Goo Goo Dolls. Tickets start at $41. While the Dolls could have coasted forever on “Iris,” they've continued to put out albums, including the August release “Chaos in Bloom.”

• Aug. 6, Elvis Costello and the Imposters. Tickets start at $23.50. Singer-songwriter Costello has been going strong since the '70s, with his new album, “A Boy Named If,” receiving as much acclaim as his earlier work.

• Aug. 11, Ted Nugent. Tickets start at $23.50. The controversial rocker will play guitar and probably express an opinion or two.

• Aug. 14, Boz Scaggs. Tickets start at $43. Canton-born guitarist Scaggs has been playing rock, jazz, R&B and blues since the '60s, with his latest album, “Out of the Blues,” returning to his blues origins.

• Aug. 26, Brothers Osborne. Tickets start at $23.50. The Nashville-based duo warn that their music is “Not for Everyone.”

Music festivals

• Aug. 3-6, Gathering of the Juggalos, Legend Valley, 7585 Kindle Road, Thornville. (juggalogathering.com). Tickets: $220. When you're not listening to music by the likes of Insane Clown Posse, Sir Mix-a-Lot, Sex Waffles, Really Bad People and many more, you can take part in costume, graffiti and “iron gullet” contests.

• Aug. 12-13, Neon Nights Country Music Fest, Clay's Park Resort, 12951 Patterson St. NW, N. Lawrence. (www.theneonnights.com). Tickets start at $89.99 a day. A full slate of artists includes headliners Alabama and Hank Williams Jr.

• Aug. 12-13, Everwild Festival, Legend Valley, 7585 Kindle Road, Thornville. (everwildfestival.com). Tickets start at $79 a day. Cleveland-based funk and reggae band Tropidelics will be headlining the family-friendly event, along with Hawaiian singer-songwriter Hiri and Californian hip-hop/reggae band Dirty Heads.

• Aug. 13-14, Festival Latino, Genoa Park, 303 W. Broad St. (festivallatino.net).  Admission: free. Enjoy children's activities, food, art and dance along with performances by La Sonora Dinamita, Milly Quezada, Liusito Ayala and Elvis Martinez.

• Aug. 24-25, Bash on the Bay, Put-in-Bay Airport, 1494 Langram Road, Put-in-Bay. (bashonthebay.com). Tickets start at $89 a day. Find a place on the island or take a boat out and listen to Brad Paisley and the Zac Brown Band.

• Aug. 26-28, Breakaway Music Festival, Historic Crew Stadium, 1 Black and Gold Blvd. (www.breakawayfestival.com). Tickets start at $74 for Friday admission. Electronic music is the focus at a festival that includes performances by the Chainsmokers, Lane 8, Griz and Slander.

• Aug. 26-28, Wonderbus, the Lawn at Chemical Abstract Services, 2540 Olentangy River Road. (wonderbusfest.com). Student tickets start at $50. Three days of music on the lawn, including performances by Duran Duran, Lorde and the Lumineers.
