Jason Manford says his grandmother is on the mend, after he abandoned his holiday to take the 99-year-old to hospital instead.

The popular comedian explained on social media that after packing for a trip, he was promptly rushed away to care for his beloved nan.

He wrote: "Was packing for a holiday 3 hours ago and now in Wythenshawe A&E with Nana Manford! Staff have been incredible & at 99 she is being an absolute trooper! Come on Nana, we gotta get to 100!"

The 99-year-old received a number of well-wishes from famous faces including Carol Vorderman who wrote: "Come on Nana Manford."

Comedian and broadcaster Harry Hill also replied: "Wishing Nana Manford a speedy recovery."

Was a long worrying night but staff were great & she’s more herself! Thanks for all your lovely messages, we enjoyed reading through them during the night."

Manford's nan has been featured on his social media before, most notably when he played her his 2017 album A Different Stage.

The comedian posted a video of his nan listening to his album of showtune covers for the first time and revealed that she was the inspiration of the project.

He said: "Finally to my grandad and nana Manford — Charlie and Leah — who every Sunday at their house would play so many old songs and tunes from musicals that they became ingrained in my own musical taste to this day."
