Jason Momoa shaves his iconic beard to raise recycling awareness

Jason Momoa has played a horse-riding warlord, a royal superhero, and a rebellious fur trader in his acting career so far. The main connective thread between those roles in Game of Thrones, Aquaman, and Frontier has been Momoa’s iconic beard. But now that facial hair is a thing of the past. The actor posted a new video on Wednesday in which he shaved his face to raise awareness for aluminum recycling.

“I just want to bring awareness that plastics are killing our planet, and I think I have a solution,” Momoa said in the video as he shaved. “I don’t wanna b—- about it, but there’s only one thing that can really help our planet and save our planet, as long as we recycle, and that’s aluminum.”

In particular, Momoa wishes aluminum cans could totally replace plastic bottles when it comes to storing beverages. Aluminum cans, after all, are infinitely recyclable. Momoa cites statistics that “75 percent of aluminum that’s ever been used is still in circulation today,” and that it only takes 60 days for an aluminum can to be recycled and put back on the market.

Paraphrasing one of Kanye West’s most famous tweets ever, Momoa talks about how much he hates drinking big plastic water bottles at airports and flights, wishing it could be recyclable aluminum instead. Towards the end of the video, he even drinks water out of some aluminum cans, relishing the fact that it will soon be recycled.

“There’s a change coming, and it’s aluminum,” he says. “You gotta get rid of your plastic water bottles. Aquaman’s trying to do the best he can for my kids, for your kids, for the world. Love you guys.”
