“Jaws 2″ star Marc Gilpin died this past weekend following a more than year-long battle with brain cancer. He was 56.

The death of the former child actor — who in the “Jaws” sequel replaced Jay Mello as Sean, younger son of Roy Scheider’s Chief Martin Brody — was confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter by his sister, “Frasier” star Peri Gilpin.

According to the outlet, Peri said Marc died following a 15-month battle with a form of brain cancer known as glioblastoma.

Though he remains most well-known for his role in the 1978 follow-up to Steven Spielberg’s game-changing blockbuster three years earlier, Gilpin had more television and TV movie roles to his name than those on the big screen.

He made his acting debut at the age of 4, when he booked a national commercial for Exxon, according to THR.

His first TV role was in a 1977 episode of the series “Thunder.” Throughout his short-lived screen career, Gilpin appeared in an episode each of “CHiPs,” “Fantasy Island,” and “Flying High,” to name a few.

His first film role was as the titular character in “Where’s Willie?” which premiered the same year as “Jaws 2.” He also appeared in TV movies like “License to Kill” and “Surviving,” alongside the likes of Ellen Burstyn, Molly Ringwald, and late stars Paul Sorvino and River Phoenix.

Gilpin’s last screen role was as a parking attendant in the 1989 film “She’s Out of Control,” starring Tony Danza.

He then chose to step away the spotlight, instead becoming a self-taught software engineer. His family told The Hollywood Reporter he earned several software patents over the course of his career.

Peri Gilpin took to her Instagram Story Wednesday to share a tribute to her brother from “Jaws 2″ fan and fellow actor David Morwick, who remembered the late Gilpin as “the nicest guy.”

Gilpin’s death was preceded by that of sisters April and Patti, who died in 2017 and 2020 respectively. He is survived by wife Kaki — with whom he had just celebrated his 24th wedding anniversary — and their teenage sons, Spencer, 18, and Presley, 16.
