The free Jax River Jams concert series returns to Jacksonville's Riverfront Plaza on Thursday nights in April with shows by Cold War Kids, Shaggy, Grouplove and Chris Lane.

The free shows started in 2021 as an effort to get people back downtown as the worst of the pandemic eased. The concerts pair national touring acts with local opener. Food trucks and bars are on site and fans bring their own chairs and blankets to enjoy the shows in the open field where the Jacksonville Landing once stood.

Local bands will start at 5:30 and 7 p.m. and the headliner takes the stage at 8:30 p.m. for each of the shows.

This year's series kicks off April 6 with rock band Cold War Kids, with local openers Bad Madonna and Visitation.

The April 13 show pairs Grammy-winning reggae artist Shaggy with L.O.V.E. Culture and Jeremy Ryan.

On April 20, Grouplove headlines and Faze Wave and Liza Attic open.

The series closes on April 27 with country singer Chris Lane and local openers Cumberland and Dylan Gerard.
