Jay Park launches new label More Vision: ‘I want to create something that will be loved by the world’

Korean American rapper Jay Park has officially unveiled his new label, More Vision, months after announcing he would be stepping down as CEO of AOMG and H1ghr Music.

Jay Park, whose full Korean name is Park Jae-beom, 34, announced the new company in a video interview posted on More Vision's new YouTube channel on Thursday. The Seattle-born rapper alsoshared with NME some of his thoughts on his career.

In the video, titled “More Love, More Laughter, MORE VISION,” Park shared that although he found success and recognition through his hip hop and R&B music, it is “meaningless if I’m the only one having fun and people that are in it with me are miserable.”

“I kept running no matter how tired I was, because I wanted to create a better environment and better life for the people I love,” Park continued.

“I want to create something that will be loved by the world even more than before,” he later said.

Park surprised fans in December 2021 after he announced he wasstepping down as CEO of AOMG (founded in 2013) and H1ghr Music (founded in 2017).

“After a lot of thought and taking time to organize my emotions I’ve decided to step down as the CEO of AOMG and H1GHR MUSIC. I know this may be shocking to a lot of people but I will remain as an advisor for both labels and we will continue to be a family and a crew,” Park said in an Instagram post on Dec. 31 in Korean and English.

Soon after the announcement, rumors that he was ready to start a new labelbegan circulating online.

Park made his K-pop debut as the leader of the group 2PM under JYP Entertainment in 2008. He haswon several awards throughout his music career, including Musician of the Year and Best R&B and Soul Album at the Korean Music Awards.

Park was among the many artists who called out Trump on his constant use of “Chinese virus” to refer to COVID-19. In a statement, the Korean American rapper called the former president’s use of the word “irresponsible and disgusting.”

The K-pop star was also embroiled in a controversy in June 2021, when he was accused of cultural appropriation for creating an “Asian version” of “DNA,” the hit song of American rapper Kendrick Lamar.
