Jay Simpson: I'm here for the creative content

Sep. 20—I remember when social media was just a place to post pictures and interact through comments. But over the years, it has taken a huge turn, becoming a way to monetize your likeness.

Content creators are the new wave, and everyone wants to do it. It looks really fun and something I wish was popular when I was younger. I believe my friends and I would have excelled because we recorded everything and did a lot of fun stuff like pranks. We surely would have caught people's eyes because we all were fairly popular.

I've tried creating content, and it's not as easy as it looks. In order to be successful, you have to put the work in — hours and hours of work.

The most popular content creators put out the most material. You have to invest in yourself and your brand first and then promote it the best way you know how.

They might not work a 9-5, but they have to work just as hard to keep their fans happy and food on their table, so I respect it.

I wouldn't be opposed to letting my children give it a try. They would have to have a plan and an appropriate idea for me to be on board.

I respect content creators because it takes dedication.
