JCPD: Man broke into home, threatened to kill victim

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Johnson City man was arrested after he allegedly broke into a home and threatened to kill a person on Sunday.

The Johnson City Police Department (JCPD) reported that officers responded to a domestic violence call at a home on Glenstone Court around 9:30 p.m.

An individual reportedly told police that a man, identified as Phillip Capps, 36, of Johnson City, was intoxicated and entered the home through an unlocked door. The victim stated that Capps put a knife to their neck, threatened to kill them and tried to strangle them several times.

Capps allegedly broke the victim’s phone to prevent them from calling for help. The victim was able to escape, the JCPD reported.

Officers found Capps hiding in a vehicle in the garage of the home. He was reportedly out of jail on bond for a previous assault arrest, police stated.

Capps was charged with the following, according to the JCPD:

  • Aggravated domestic assault

  • Interference with emergency calls

  • Contempt of court

He was taken to the Washington County Detention Center.
