JCPS cancels sporting events Wednesday as snow expected in Louisville

Jefferson County Public Schools is canceling all sporting events and extra curricular activities after 6 p.m. Wednesday, the district said in a text sent to parents.

A winter weather advisory has been issued in Louisville and the surrounding areas, as about an inch of snow is expected beginning about 6 p.m.

This includes scheduled basketball games, including Fern Creek vs. Butler, Eastern vs. DuPont Manual and Iroquois vs. North Bullitt.

Temperatures during the day are in the mid 40s but will drop down into the 20s Wednesday evening and persist through Thursday.

"We want people to know you’ve got big changes," National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Neudorff said. "This is a going to be a situation where we get rain, so wet roads. Then with that transition of the temperature drop, it’s going to be really quick. ... It's highly likely that there will be slick spots out there."
