Have a JCPS student? You likely qualify for $30 per month toward your internet bill

Thanks to a federal grant program, most Jefferson County Public School families are eligible for a monthly discount on their internet bills, as well as a one-time discount to purchase a device.

The Affordable Connectivity Program will provide qualifying households with up to $30 per month for new or existing internet service and a one-time discount of up to $100 for purchasing a tablet, laptop or desktop computer.

JCPS finances: Which elementary schools are getting and spending the most money?

There are a few different ways to qualify for the program, one of which is having a student enrolled at a school where all students receive free lunch, due to participating in the federal government's Community Eligibility Program. Within JCPS, all but nine schools fall into that category. Those nine schools are:

  • The Brown School

  • Dunn Elementary

  • DuPont Manual High

  • Greathouse/Shyrock Traditional

  • Male High

  • Lowe Elementary

  • Norton Elementary

  • Norton Commons Elementary

  • Stopher Elementary

Families who send their children to those schools could still qualify under the below requirements:

  • The household participates in government assistance such as SNAP, Medicaid or other programs;

  • The household income is within 200% of the federal poverty level (which is $19,720 for a family of two, $24,860 for a family of three and $30,000 for a family of four); or

  • Households in which anyone receives a federal Lifeline benefit.

This program is available to all Kentucky families. Throughout the state, more than 80% of households do qualify, according to a release from the Kentucky Department of Education.
