Jeannette's Sparkle of Christmas parade grows

Nov. 25—Jeannette's annual Sparkle of Christmas parade is set to be twice as big as last year's, according to parade co-coordinator Michelle Langdon.

"There's a bigger interest in participating this year," she said.

The parade will step off at 2 p.m. Dec. 2 and head down Clay Avenue. The Sparkle of Christmas event will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on South Fifth Street and inside the Jeannette American Legion.

The legion and the Jeannette Business Association have partnered to host the Sparkle of Christmas.

Langdon, who has organized with Cris Lowstuter and Ed Schultz, said there are a lot more classic and interesting cars that will be participating in the parade during which Santa Claus will make an appearance. The parade will be led by grand marshal Jackie Oskin who Langdon said ran a preschool center for many years.

Food trucks will be parked on South Fifth Street and inside the legion will be crafts and baked goods. Santa will be there after the parade. Handmade stockings stuffed with items donated by business association members will be handed out.

"I'm just really proud of the Jeannette Business Association for stepping up and helping," Langdon said.

Volunteers will be throughout town and in the legion to help with the event.
