Jeff Bezos Steps Out for First Time Since Divorce Announcement to Receive Aviation Honor

Jeff Bezos was honored with an aviation award in his first public outing since he announced his divorce and his new romance with Lauren Sanchez became public.

The Amazon CEO — worth a reported $137 billion, making him the richest man in the world — was honored at the 16th Annual Living Legends of Aviation Awards hosted by John Travolta on Friday night at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

Bezos, who attended the event without Sanchez, looked happy and confident as he was being congratulated on his award by everyone, according to an onlooker.

Also at the soirée was actor Harrison Ford, who was honored last year.

Bezos, 55, is the founder of Blue Origin, a privately funded aerospace manufacturer. He received the Jeff Bezos Freedoms Wings Award, which was described as “Nobel-like” from Dr. Tom Enders, the Chairman and CEO of Airbus.

The entrepreneur’s honor comes just a week after he and his wife of 25 years, MacKenzie, announced they were getting a divorce in a joint statement he shared on Twitter.

“We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other. If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again,” the two said in the statement.

The pair has four children together: three sons and a daughter.

Bezos has also found love with 49-year-old news anchor, Sanchez, who is divorcing her husband of 13 years, Hollywood agent Patrick Whitesell.

While Sanchez and Bezos have not been spotted out together since news of their relationship broke, a source told PEOPLE in this week’s issue the new couple is “in constant contact.”

“The world is catching up to it,” the source said of their romance “But it has had zero impact on their relationship. It’s actually made them stronger.”
