Jeff Brazier did not allow Jade Goody's sons to watch Channel 4 documentary

Jade Goody’s ex Jeff Brazier has said he refused to let their sons watch the new documentary about their late mum’s life as it might have been too “upsetting”.

The three-part Channel 4 programme – entitled Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain – chronicles Goody’s difficult childhood, her rise to fame on Big Brother in 2002 and the battle with cervical cancer that led to her death in 2009 aged 27.

Brazier, 40, said he debated whether to let their teenagers Bobby and Freddie watch the series.

Although he said the programme was “particularly well-made”, Brazier said it was also “really unsettling” and felt it would not be beneficial for his boys.

Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival in a panel covering the duty of
care of broadcasters, he said: "I haven't watched it.

“From a technical parenting point of view, whilst they are coming to the end of their childhood and they are able to take on board more adult themes, I don't think they are quite ready to watch a large percentage of what has been shown.

“I don't begrudge any of the content that has been used in making the documentary.

“It is particularly well-made and people have no issue with that."

Brazier added: "But in terms of is that something they could watch?

“It's not like they would find out so much more about mum in a lovely or warm or memorial way, or just looking back and remembering it.

“There are a lot of really adult themes there that they are probably not
going to get their head around.

"They could find it upsetting and angry.”

Brazier did appear in the documentary, giving an interview about Goody.

He said he wanted his sons, when they do get to watch it, to see him “giving some positive, really glowing remarks about their mum”.

He also said he wanted to take part because he did not want Goody’s mother Jackiey Budden representing him on camera.

Goody and Brazier started dating in 2002 and they welcomed son Bobby Jack in 2003 and Freddie in 2004, before splitting that year.

The children were aged four and five when Goody died.

Last year Brazier married his girlfriend Kate Dwyer.
