Jeff Bridges Lists Historic Montecito Estate for $8 Million

Film fans looking to live like The Dude need look no further: Jeff Bridges and his wife, Susan Geston, recently put their sprawling Montecito estate on the market for $7.995 million, according to reports. The couple originally purchased the four-acre ranch in April 2014 for $6.85 million, and have seen it bounce back from some seriously treacherous times. Just last year, the home was “severely damaged” following the deadly mudslides that ravaged the area, The Big Lebowski star revealed in a tweet at the time.

Bridges and Geston previously sold another Montecito home in 2017.

The Spanish Revival–style home has since been restored, with a blend of original details and new, more contemporary furnishings. The estate comprises at least five separate buildings including a main house, a guesthouse, a pool house, a carriage house, and a gated horse facility with five stalls and a tack room. The main home was but in 1919 by local architect James Osborne Craig, and boasts hardwood floors and vaulted ceilings with unvarnished, exposed beams throughout. Most of the large picture windows are original installations; five semicircular fireplaces add a touch of rustic coziness to the space. The kitchen features skylights for extra natural light, as well as wooden cabinets and drawers surrounding a marble-topped center island.

In the master suite (home to one of the fireplaces), a bay window makes for an ideal sitting area, and French doors lead out onto the sunny backyard. The master bathroom has clearly been upgraded with a modern deep-soaking tub and a separate glass-enclosed shower, and a cavernous walk-in closet features room enough for separate sections for each partner. Out back, the pool and spa area is surrounded by a red-brick terrace with tons of large oak trees lining the property for optimal privacy. The nearby pool house has its own family room, office, sauna, and bathroom, while the separate carriage house features an attached workshop and garage, perhaps where Bridges practiced his pottery hobby.

Also of note on the property is a private well situated next to the equestrian barn, which is quite a luxury given the droughts that often plague the area. The Bridges’ famous neighbors include Oprah Winfrey and, previously, Ellen DeGeneres, who recently sold her ranch to Tinder founder Sean Rad. Bridges and Geston previously owned a 20-acre, Tuscan-style Montecito estate that they sold for $16 million in 2017.
