Jeff Stelling fuming after Love Island is spoiled by an ad: 'Inept broadcasting'

Jeff Stelling is not at all happy that Love Island was ruined for him on Sunday night.

The Soccer Saturday presenter was watching the penultimate episode of the reality show where it would be revealed which of the couple's would make it to Monday's final.

During the show, ITV aired a promo for Aftersun where Maya Jama would speak to the dumped islanders only Will Young and Jessie Wynter could be seen in shot.

Stelling made his displeasure known on Twitter: "Brilliant !!! 8 weeks and Aftersun promo reveals who is out before the final Sunday night Love Island scenes. Unbelievably useless inept piece of broadcasting !! (Not that I care , only watching for family you understand)."

The Love Island final will see Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan, Ron Hall and Lana Jenkins, Shaq Muhammad and Tanya Manhenga, and Tom Clare and Samie Elishi compete for the £50,000 prize.

Earlier in the weekend, Stelling had poked fun at the situation between the BBC and Gary Lineker.

During the opening of Soccer Saturday, Stelling joked: "I need to be at the top of my game today because there's a top-notch football presenter available on Saturdays now," referencing the BBC's suspension of Lineker over his criticism of the government's asylum policy.

Stelling had already made his support for Lineker known on social media: "Shame to hear a journalist Matthew Syed not supporting freedom of speech re Gary Lineker. I was brought up to believe it was fundamental that every journalist should believe in that. But it seems freedom of speech for some, not all."

Syed later replied by saying: "I believe in free speech completely. But I also believe in the freedom of the BBC to put conditions on its main broadcasters - which they should uphold."

The former Countdown host reiterated his criticism of Syed's stance: "It wasn’t on the BBC. It was on social media. He is a freelance working for others as well as the BBC. I don’t know the guy really but just don’t get why you felt the need to put the boot in!"

Love Island ends tonight on ITV2 at 9pm.
