Jefferson Parish voters reminded to update party affiliation ahead of Spring primaries

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Jefferson Parish voters are being advised to confirm their “Party Affiliation” ahead of the spring primary election.

Happening March 23, voters belonging to specific political parties will cast their votes during the closed party election to select the candidates they want to run for the presidential seat.

“Voting is a fundamental right that empowers citizens to actively participate in shaping the future of our community,” said Jefferson Parish Registrar of Voters Dennis DiMarco. “The Jefferson Parish Registrar of Voters Office remains dedicated to providing a seamless and efficient voting experience, ensuring accessibility and convenience for all eligible citizens.”

Officials with the Jefferson Parish Registrar of Voters Office said only the Democratic and Republican parties are participating in the election because they have 40,000 more registered voters.

Anyone not registered as either of the two will only be able to vote for state and local offices such as judges, council, police chief and propositions.

The deadline for in-person registration will be Wednesday, Feb. 21. The deadline for online registration and to change party affiliation is Saturday, March 2.
