  • Jenna Bush Hager revealed the fitness routine she follows to feel her best.

  • Hager said it's important to understand, “it just takes time, and you have to give yourself that grace.”

  • Today with Hoda & Jenna co-star Hoda Kotb encouraged viewers to stop criticizing themselves and told Hager to be proud of her accomplishments.

During a recent segment on Today with Hoda & Jenna, co-host Jenna Bush Hager opened up about the recent health changes that have helped her look and feel fantastic. Alongside co-host Hoda Kotb, the morning show stars discussed New Year’s resolutions and the difficulty people have sticking to them.

Kotb pointed out that Hager has gone through a noticeable physical change the last few months, and asked her about any adjustments she’s made to her routine.

“People have noticed there’s like a transformation happening with you,” Kotb said to her co-star. “[Viewers] are saying, ‘Jenna’s looking amazing. She’s never looked this good.’”

Hager thanked Kotb for the compliment and Kotb encouraged her to celebrate her victories and open up with viewers about the changes she has made in her life to achieve her fitness goals.

“I think I’ve figured out what kind of works for me,” Hager said. “I think the hard thing is, I think we expect things to happen overnight. This has actually been almost six months.”

Kotb then asked what specific changes Hager has been making, and she revealed it’s simply a regular workout schedule. “The difference is, I wake up before the show and workout. And I really workout.” Hager revealed.

She then named a few friends that join her for some a.m. exercise, which she describes as a “hard workout.”

Hager noted that the most important thing to remember when trying to achieve a goal, like dropping pounds, is to not only put in the work but to be patient and gracious with yourself and the changes you’re trying to make.

“Here’s the other thing, anybody who has either gained weight during the pandemic or had babies during the pandemic, It just takes time, and you have to give yourself that grace. My body isn’t 18 anymore,” Hager said.

Hager then added that her mother, Laura Bush, noticed the healthy changes, too. Hager had her youngest son, Hal Hager, two and a half years ago. Despite society’s pressure on new moms to “bounce back” after having a baby, Hager said that she wouldn’t trade her kids for a certain physique.

“I had three babies, so [my body is] going to look this way. And would I choose perfect abs or them?” she asked. “And maybe you have life. Stuff happens. So, maybe just allow yourself the time.”

Kotb then added it’s important for people to be kinder to themselves, and to consider how they talk about themselves. She encouraged viewers to stop spending time telling themselves and others they don’t feel good or look good. Instead, accept your body for what it is and stop criticizing it.

“Both of us, even though we’re not the thinnest, we’ve gotten used to just the sort of…this is us,” Hager said.

Kotb added, “We’re created, like, in a certain way. And you know when you say, ‘God I wish I had certain eyes, I wish I had a different nose, I wish I had a different this, different that,’ it’s like, this is how you are…We’re so unique. Who we are, sitting here.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!
