Jenna Kurtz, Erica McAlpine receive scholarships to study nursing

Two Portage County graduates have received scholarships from the Auxiliary of UH Portage Medical Center. The two $1,000 scholarships were awarded to local graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue nursing degrees.

This year’s scholarship recipients are Jenna Kurtz, a graduate of Rootstown High School and Erica McAlpine, a Streetsboro High School graduate.

Kurtz, the daughter of Mike Kurtz and Jodi Illner, plans to study nursing at Ohio University. McAlpine is the daughter of Eric and Robin McAlpine and will pursue her nursing degree at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University.

The scholarship program is part of the auxiliary’s mission to render service to the hospital and its patients; to promote the health and welfare of the community; and to provide funds through special projects for additional patient services in accordance with hospital priorities.  For more information on the auxiliary and its programs, contact UH Portage Medical Center Volunteer Services at 330-297-2591.
