Jenna Ortega forced to deny Johnny Depp romance - 'Please stop spreading lies'

Jenna Ortega and Johnny Depp are not dating, despite what you may have read over at @deuxmoiworld.

This purveyor of gossip reported how Ortega and Depp could be working together on the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel, directed by Tim Burton, and that a whiff of romance surrounded them.

Keen to put these rumours to bed, the Wednesday actress herself responded via Instagram.

"This is so ridiculous I can't even laugh. I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone," she wrote.

Pirates of the Caribbean favourite Depp's representatives also rubbished the notion.

"Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever," read a statement. "He has never met her or spoken to her. He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumours that are intended to harm his reputation and career."

In other news, the noise around Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard's legal battles has only just subsided.

Last year, a Virginian jury ruled that the Aquaman actress had defamed him after submitting an op-ed for The Washington Post where she detailed experiences of domestic abuse.

She was ordered to pay $10m in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages.

Breaking her silence on NBC talkshow Today, Heard conceded: "I don't blame them. I actually understand. He's a beloved character and people feel they know him. He's a fantastic actor.

"I don't care what one thinks about me or what judgments you want to make about what happened in the privacy of my own home, in my marriage, behind closed doors," she added, addressing social media trolls.

"I don't presume the average person should know those things. And so I don't take it personally. But even somebody who is sure I'm deserving of all this hate and vitriol, even if you think that I'm lying, you still couldn't look me in the eye and tell me that you think on social media there's been a fair representation.

"You cannot tell me that you think that this has been fair."
