Jenna Ortega is totally against this You Season 3 fan theory about Ellie

This story contains spoilers from You Season 2.

One of the best yet most heartbreaking storylines of You Season 2 was introducing the audience to the character of Ellie Alves. Joe Goldberg’s 15-year-old neighbor Ellie brought humor, innocence, and wisdom to the second season of the Netflix drama, but she was also left completely abandoned by the end of the season. Fans of the show have lots of theories up their sleeves for how Ellie’s storyline will play out during You Season 3, but the actress herself, Jenna Ortega, has her own thoughts on her character’s journey from here.

In a February 20th interview with Insider, the actress spilled her thoughts on the fan theories that have been swirling since the twist ending of You Season 2. Fans of the show are already dying for a third season to be released on Netflix for binging, but in the meantime, they’re cooking up some revenge for Ortega’s character Ellie. Viewers are still feeling for Ellie, who Goldberg basically banished from LA to the East Coast in order to keep his girlfriend Love Quinn (and himself) safe.

However, Ortega herself isn’t thrilled by some of the darker You Season 3 fan theories and storylines for her young character.

“I heard that some viewers want Ellie to come back and kill Love [played by Victoria Pedretti] and possibly Joe…but to me, that defeats the purpose of Ellie’s storyline,” Ortega told Insider.

She continued, explaining why she doesn’t see those actions matching Ellie’s character.

Ortega had previously told HelloGiggles that while she doesn’t want to see Ellie become a murderer, she’s totally on board for her character to take Joe and Love down for good in the third season. And some fans have theories about how Ellie could accomplish this rightful takedown.

One idea is that the aspiring director could come back to LA to release the movie that Forty Quinn wrote, Dark Face of Love, which is based on Guinevere Beck’s book (from You Season 1). Now that would be full-circle revenge.

“I love that theory!” Ortega said in response. “I really want Ellie to come out of this stronger than before, and I know how badly she wants to be a director,”

If this theory comes to fruition in You Season 3, that would mean revenge for Ellie, Beck, and Dr. Nicky, if not all of the other people Joe and Love have murdered (Benji, Peach, Candace, Delilah, Henderson, etc.), too. We’re totally on board with this ironic takedown, and our fingers are crossed that Ortega’s character Ellie Alves makes it happen.
