JENNIE: Augusta Jr. Players presenting “Ghost” Feb. 9 – 11

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF)– The Augusta Player’s latest performance is coming up February 9th, 10th and 11th at the Kroc Center. Artistic director Roy Lewis joins Jennie, along with cast member Reese Johnson, a 10th grader and he’s got a big role in the show. They’re here to tell us all about “Ghost.”

Roy Lewis: “It’s based on the story of Castle Crenshaw, a.k.a. Ghost, who is running away from things, running away from trouble, running away from what he feels are his problems. And then he meets a coach who helps him find his purpose in life on a track team. So Ghost is running away from things to find things.”

Jennie: “Oh, I love that. Well, you mentioned Castle Crenshaw and Castle Crenshaw, a.k.a. Ghost is who you play Reese. What spoke to you about that character?”

Reese Johnson: “What spoke to me about Castle is that he has had a really hard life, but he was able to turn that into something good with the help of a support system like Coach and his mom and his teammates, and how he just really turned his whole life around and turned something back for good.”

Jennie: “You know, I think that is probably something a lot of teenagers can relate to. It sounds like that. And I love what Roy said about running away from problems, but running to a solution.”

Roy Lewis: “It’s very powerful in that it does address… a lot of issues that young folks are being challenged with today, finding out how they fit in, finding out where they belong or who they are. How do I make choices? Who do I trust to help me make those choices? Reese does an amazing job, and I’m excited.”

Jennie: “You know what amazes me about you guys that do the Junior Players is, especially during the school year, I mean, you still have your schoolwork to do. You’ve got so much to learn for your play, but you’re still keeping up with your school.”

Reese Johnson: “So it’s been a lot of hard work, but it’s been very fun. It makes you very productive. Like it forces you to be productive.”

Once again, the Augusta Junior player’s presentation of Ghost is coming up February 9th, 10th, and 11th at the Kroc Center on Broad Street. Showtimes are Friday, February 9th at 7 p.m. Saturday, February 10th at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. And then on Sunday, February 11, at 4 p.m.
