Jennifer Aniston Explains at SAG Awards Why She Finally Created an Instagram Account

While fans were distracted by Jennifer Aniston's reunion with ex-husband Brad Pitt at the SAG Awards, they likely missed what she told press backstage about her Instagram account.

Back in October 2019, Aniston set a Guinness World Record for reaching 1 million Instagram followers in less than six hours when her account launched. However, until the SAG Awards she hadn't discussed why she had a sudden interest in joining the platform.

"I'm not gonna say it was peer pressure, but it was peer pressure. Listen, if you can't beat them, join them. Right?" she revealed to reporters in the press room.

Fans Aren't The Only Ones Who Want To See Brad Pitt And Jennifer Aniston Back Together

What was Jennifer Aniston's first post?

In her first Instagram post on October 15, 2019, Aniston shared a selfie with her "Friends" co-stars. Aniston played Rachel on the hit television show for a decade, finishing in 2004 when the final episode aired.

"And now we're Instagram FRIENDS too. HI INSTAGRAM," Aniston wrote in her caption, adding a hand waving emoji.

Now in January, the picture has 15,676,447 likes and Aniston has amassed 24.9 million followers, despite only following 277 back. Her bio simply reads, "My friends call me Jen."

How did fans react when she joined?

Fans were stoked their favorite "Friends" alum joined them on social media, with some even referencing the show in their excited comments.

"OH MY GOD (please read this with Janice's voice!) Love you guys, soo much! @jenniferaniston please note me! Send me a kiss," one fan wrote, alongside a heart-eyes emoji and two kissy face emojis.

Another fan followed up with, "I watch Friends everyday, thanks to Netflix I am able to watch it. Its my happy pill. And now I'm on Season 7 Episode 20. I love everyone, you're all so funny and lovable (100 emoji, heart emoji) kisses to you Rachel."

What else does Aniston share on the gram?

Like any typical Instagram user, Jennifer Aniston posts pictures of her friends, shows off food she made and uploads good-looking selfies.

However, Aniston's pics are a little more elevated with her friends being Courtney Cox and Lisa Kudrow, the enchiladas being for Jimmy Kimmel's "F***ing Friendsgiving," as she said in her caption, and her selfies being in gorgeous gowns that cost thousands.

In her latest Instagram picture series, Aniston showed off her SAG Awards gown, while lounging in the backseat of a car and added a second shot of her award next to her kicked off heels. Aniston took home the award for "Best Female Actor in a Drama Series" for her lead role in "The Morning Show."

"No wrinkles...harder than it looks! Somewhere between these two photos, my peers gave me a gift I will cherish and a night I will never forget. Thank you @sagawards, @themorningshow, and our incredible cast and crew. Let's get back to work!" she wrote.

Could Matthew Perry be the next to join?

Now that Aniston's had a taste of Instagram, she and Courtney Cox are trying to get Matthew Perry to step up as the final "Friends" alum to join.

In Touch Weekly explained when Aniston broke records it boosted her confidence and she feels Matthew Perry, who played Chandler on "Friends", could be equally successful and could use the positive encouragement.

Unlike his co-stars who continued successful careers since the show's end, Perry has struggled with both a Vicodin and alcohol addiction. A social media comeback may be just what he needs to revamp his public image.
