Jennifer Hudson is one step closer to achieving EGOT status following the 2022 Tony Award nominations.
This year, she is nominated as a producer for A Strange Loop, which racked up 11 nominations.
An EGOT is when a performer wins an Emmy, a Grammy, an Academy Award and a Tony.
Jennifer Hudson has previously won a Daytime Emmy for executive producing the VR animated film Baby Yaga, a Grammy for the Best Musical Theater Album in 2017 for The Color Purple and Best R&B album in 2009, and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Dreamgirls in 2007.
Hudson was previously snubbed by the Tonys in 2017 when she didn’t receive a nomination for her role as Shug Avery in The Color Purple.
Hudson is nominated as a producer for 'A Strange Loop,' the musical by Michael R. Jackson that follows a Black queer man writing a musical as he grapples with desires, identity and instincts.
The production is up for best musical, best direction, best lead actor, best-featured actor, best-featured actress, and best original score, among other nominations. Hudson’s EGOT chance looks like a sure thing as A Strange Loop looks like a Tony’s powerhouse.
The 75th annual Tony Awards will be hosted by Ariana DeBose on June 12 live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
