Jennifer Hudson Has ‘Proud Mom’ Moment As Son Turns 14

Jennifer Hudson is celebrating her son David Daniel Otunga Jr on his 14th birthday. She shares David with her ex-faincé David Otunga. The two went their separate ways in November 2017. The EGOT-winning actor and television show host shared a video of the birthday boy on her Instagram, urging her fans to celebrate with her in her cation.

“Team Jhud can yal pls help me wish wish my kid DOJ a very happy 14th BIRTHDAY, today !” She wrote in the post caption. “Wow yal [sic] wow, I can not believe that I now have a 14 yr old !!!! God is so good !!!! Time to celebrate !!! #proudmom.”

In the video she posted, David is seen dribbling and throwing a basketball as Hudson asks him why he is wearing a t-shirt made for him when he was 13. He paired the red t-shirt with black shorts, layered chains, sunglasses and sneakers.

“What’s happening?” Hudson who stays behind the camera throughout the video, asks her son. “Why you got that 13 on? Ain’t you 14 today?”

David goes on to reply, “Yeah, this is the shirt I wore a year ago today.” Hudson goes on to ask her son how old he has just turned, before singing him a happy birthday song.

Raising A Black Teen Son

Jennifer Hudson recently discussed her parenting style when she appeared on the cover of Real Simple. She disclosed that she is careful in the guidance she provides her son as well as his group of friends. In her interview, she talked about taking her son, along with his friends and some cousins to the White House when she performed at the Juneteenth Ceremony.

“I want my son to be a part of those things—and his cousins and friends. Little David has a really big heart, and he always wants to include them. So I said, ‘I’ll sing, but I have to bring my boys,’ ” she told the magazine.

Later on in the interview, she added that, “Being a mom of a Black son, you have to make him conscious of and aware of certain things—who he is within the world. And there’s so many layers he has to learn! But he’s at an age where he can fully understand it. And he’s so evolved beyond what I could ever imagine.”
