From Oprah Magazine

  • Jennifer Lopez has been cast as the lead in Marry Me, a new romantic comedy about a pop star who finds her fiancé cheating on her seconds before they're set to walk down the aisle at Madison Square Garden.

  • And if you want to see photos of the exquisite wedding dress Lopez wears, they've just emerged.

  • The film's cast includes Hollywood veteran Owen Wilson and Colombian singer Maluma.

  • In October, Maluma took to Instagram to post a photo with Lopez—presumably from the set of the new film.

  • Days later, Lopez made a surprise visit to Maluma's 11:11 tour stop at New York City's Madison Square Garden where she hit the stage in a golden dress to belt out "No Me Ames," a ballad she originally sang with ex Marc Anthony, live on stage. Why the cameo? It's apparently going to make it into Marry Me, according to Billboard.

If you're a romantic comedy lover who's a little worried Jennifer Lopez has spent too much time focusing on her music with summer 2019's It’s My Party tour, fear not. The 50-year-old multi-hyphenate has officially signed on to star in Marry Me, a brand-new romantic comedy brought to us by the same folks behind last year’s Second Act.

Lopez is beloved for her hit songs—good luck getting “Dinero,” “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” or “No Me Ames” out of your head. But J.Lo is also known for dozens of memorable movies. Remember Maid in Manhattan, Enough, The Wedding Planner, Monster-in-Law, The Cell, Gigli, The Boy Next Door, El Cantante, Anaconda, and a little film called Selena? Oh, and then there’s this year’s film Hustlers, which scored plenty of Oscar buzz.

One thing that's for sure is that the triple threat is not slowing down any time soon. So in honor of her latest gig, we’ve gathered every detail we know so far about Jennifer Lopez's new movie Marry Me so far.

When does Jennifer Lopez's Marry Me hit theaters?

A release date hasn’t yet been announced, but we’re going to go out on a limb and expect the movie to drop in 2020. Why? Production for her latest, Hustlers, began earlier this year, and the film just came out in September. The girl moves fast!

That said, the wheels appear to be turning quickly on Marry Me. In October, Maluma (more on his role, below) took to Instagram to share a photo of himself with Lopez. While his caption is somewhat vague, "DAY ONE / DIA UNO," we do suspect it's from the set of the movie since there are scripts in front of them.

Lopez also took to Instagram and wrote: "The art of collaboration...it’s what I love about this business!!! True magic happens when inspiration meets the absence of ego. It’s so much fun when different artists come together and everyone contributes to create something special and true and real for everyone to experience and enjoy!! Issa flow... Here we go!!!

In addition, paparazzi photos caught Lopez filming in New York with Owen Wilson.

Who’s in the Marry Me cast?

So far, the movie is set to star Lopez alongside Latin singer Maluma—who plays her disloyal fiancé—plus the always hilarious Owen Wilson. This will mark their first on-screen collaboration since 1997’s Anaconda.

I hear she wears an extremely glittery wedding dress.

Indeed! Just have a look at this gigantic train captured while she was on set in New York City. We wonder if it's any indication of what her actual gown will look like when she marries A-Rod.

In October, Lopez made a surprise appearance during Maluma's 11:11 tour stop in New York City, when she hit the stage at Madison Square Garden to surprise a live audience with a rendition of "No Me Ames," the hit song she originally released with ex Marc Anthony in 1999. Footage from her duet with Maluma will be used for the movie, according to Billboard. In the video, below, Lopez rocks a gorgeous gold dress with a matching headdress as a camera captures both of them belting out the tune.

Is there a trailer for Marry Me?

Not yet—but we'll be on the lookout!

What’s Marry Me about?

Here’s where things gets juicy. According to Variety, the new film is based on a graphic novel by Bobby Crosby.

In it, a pop star (here, played by Lopez) gears up to take the stage and marry her famous fiancé (Maluma) at New York City’s Madison Square Garden—only to find the man being unfaithful with her assistant. As the official description for the movie states, she then proceeds to have a meltdown on stage...and then picks a random guy from the audience (Wilson) to say “I do” to instead.

The plotline sounds like it has hints of Selena, Lopez’s breakthrough, plus 2018’s A Star Is Bornwhich recently found another pop star (Lady Gaga) playing a…pop star. And considering Lopez just recovered from an epic power outage at Madison Square Garden in real life, she’s bound to take this role on as a natural.

What has J.Lo said about Marry Me?

Lopez has so far remained mum on the subject—she’s a busy woman, after all. But the folks behind the movie are pumped. After some back-and-forth, the film is getting produced by Universal Pictures, though STX (which brought us last year's J.Lo movie Second Act) first backed it up in April.

“We continue to have amazing experiences with Jennifer, Elaine [Goldsmith-Thomas] and Benny [Medina] with each film we collaborate on, and we’re thrilled that they wanted to work with STX again on this funny and endearing project,” STX films chairman Adam Fogelson said in April, according to Variety. “Owen Wilson is a hilarious and charismatic addition to the film, and the perfect person to play opposite Jen in a role that was quite literally made for her.”

Regardless of who’s making it happen, we’re ready to show up to the theater, popcorn in hand.
