The New York City blackout drove J-Lo right into the arms of another man — er, muppet? We’re not sure what he is. What we do know is that Jennifer Lopez trolling Alex Rodriguez with a Red Sox photo is priceless — plus, it goes to show that this whole crew has a great sense of humor. And while the Twitter taunts are no doubt meant to make Rodriguez green with envy, the only green one seems to be Wally the mascot. Literally.

The “meet-cute” between Lopez and Wall the Red Sox mascot took place by happenstance. Lopez would have been busy with her NYC concert, but it was canceled due to the blackout that plunged a large swathe of the city into darkness on Saturday night. Making the most of a less-than-ideal situation, Lopez decided to tag along to Fenway Park that night with her fiancé, Rodriguez, and his daughter Natasha, as Rodriguez broadcast for Sunday Night Baseball.

Little did Rodriguez know, as he was working, Wally was putting the moves on his girl. A series of photos shared to Twitter by the mascot show him cozying up to Lopez — even “whispering” in her ear. Then, the taunting began when Wally took to Twitter. “Step into my world, @JLo,” Wally captioned a cutesy video, adding a waving hand emoji before tagging Rodriguez. In a tweet showing pics of himself chatting Lopez up, Wally wrote, “Sorry, Alex ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.” (For those who forgot, Rodriguez played for the New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox’s rival team.)

Oh, that naughty little mascot. Ya gotta give him credit for just going for it, right? Clearly, it was all in good fun. Lopez enjoyed her unexpected night off with her family, posting an Instagram story showing her and her soon-to-be-stepdaughter watching the game (which, unfortunately for Wally, the Red Sox didn’t win). “They stayed until the end of the game, it was late,” one bystander told People, noting that an SUV pulled up around 1 a.m. to pick up Lopez and Rodriguez. “They jumped right in.”

By Monday night, all was back to business as usual for the high-profile pair. Lopez returned to Madison Square Garden to finish her original concert cut short by the blackout. “They were like, ‘You don’t have to do the show, you know, insurance will cover everything — including you, including the fans, and everything will be fine.’ But I just felt like everybody came out for this special celebration. The crowd was so electric that night, even just for the first 15 minutes that they got to see,” Lopez told Entertainment Tonight. “So I was like, ‘I just can’t leave it like that, I don’t want to leave it like that. They like the experience, that’s what they came for and I want to give it to them.”

She’s a class act, that Lopez. It’s easy to see what Wally, uh, Rodriguez sees in her.
