Jensen Beach wrestling clinches spot at state duals

Jensen Beach's wrestling team defeated Cardinal Gibbons 31-29 in the 4-1A duals regional semifinals Thursday night to clinch their spot at state in Kissimmee.

The Falcons knocked off Somerset 41-30 in their first matchup of the night, and got revenge from last season as Jensen Beach lost 37-34 to the Chiefs at the same stage.

Sebastian Degennaro, Ryan Mooney, Jewell Williams, Dylan Fox and Matt O’Hara all won both of their matches on the night and Ben Norris won his only match for Jensen Beach

The Falcons, who joined Fort Pierce Central as the only other area team to reach a regional final in 3A, will take on Mater Lakes on Jan. 21 in a regional final with all state duals competition taking place at Osceola High in Kissimmee.

Boys Basketball

Martin County 62, Vero Beach 51: Elijah Duval scored 15 points to lead the Tigers (12-3) to a road victory. Jack Pierrelus added 14 points and Ryan Davis chipped in 11 points for Martin County.

Carl Monplaisir scored a game-high 18 points and Timarion Bardwell added 15 points for Vero (7-7).

John Carroll Catholic 69, Fort Pierce Westwood 33: Wilky Denaud scored 15 points and added nine rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead the way for the Rams (13-2). Arron McFarlane scored 11 points and Aidan Singleton chipped in nine points for John Carroll.

Torique Alford scored 12 points and Andre Clarons added eight points for the Panthers.

Okeechobee 66, Clewiston 32: Amayoa’ah Phillips scored a game-high 20 points and Jayquavous Thomas added 10 points in the win for the Brahmans (12-3).

Girls Basketball

Martin County 61, Fort Pierce Westwood 52: Kaylee Gumina went for a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds and Denasia Hilare added 16 points and five steals to lead the Tigers (10-6) to victory.

Shakeria Briggs scored 19 points and Velise Destile added 11 points in the loss for the Panthers (6-10).

St. Edward’s 41, Odyssey Charter 33: Raina Duggal scored 14 points and Alexa Soderman added 11 points to lead the way for the Pirates (10-4).

John Carroll Catholic 50, Tradition Prep 10: Chelsey Francis scored 27 points to lead the Rams (6-6) in the win. Morgan Scott scored 12 points and Emily Hall added 10 points for John Carroll.

Girls Soccer

Martin County 3, Vero Beach 2: Peyton Fitzherbert scored two goals and Mia Calderon added a goal as the Tigers (7-0-5) remained unbeaten on the season.

Angela Becerra and Kiera Smylie hit the scoresheet in the loss for Vero.

Pine School 3, Centennial 3: Hannah Squier netted all three goals for the Knights (8-2-2) and Jasmin Adames scored two goals for the Eagles (3-6-3) in the draw.

Ashleigh Mapypole tacked on the other goal of the match for Centennial.

Justina Southern made 13 saves for Pine School.
